Craig D.M. Routson joined METRO/RISK in 1994, opening the Company's office in Baltimore and managing the affairs of the firm in the Eastern United States. He currently manages the risk management program for Motient Corporation (formerly American Mobile Satellite Corporation).
Craig has spent 25 years in the property and casualty insurance field. After his early years as a casualty underwriter and subsequently as an independent consultant, Craig spent over two decades with institutional insurance brokerage firms, most recently as a Managing Director of Marsh & McLennan, where he served as Senior Resident Officer for the State of Maryland, and as Regional Coordinator of Risk Management Practice for their offices in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.
He began his fifteen years at Marsh & McLennan as Vice President and Deputy to the Head of the Philadelphia Office in 1979. He was elected Senior Vice President in 1981, Managing Director of the firm in 1983 and later that year was appointed head of the company's Washington and Baltimore operations. He also served as Chairman of Marsh & McLennan's International Public Entities Committee.
Craigs broad experience in all areas of property and casualty risk management includes forming self-insurance pools, captive management, affinity group insurance programs, international risks and the worldwide placement of difficult Professional and Product Liability risks. He has been the senior insurance advisor to such organizations as Bell Atlantic Corporation, The City of Baltimore, The Archdiocese of Baltimore, and the Multinational Force and Observers, who patrol the Sinai peninsula under the agreements of the Camp David Accords.
A graduate of the American University in Washington, D.C., Craig also holds a degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law. He is a member of the Governor of Maryland's Executive Advisory Council, and serves on the Governor's Select Advisory Panel, and the Panel on Insurance Fraud. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Center Stage in Baltimore, and on the International Board of Directors of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife in Nairobi, Kenya.
Born in Quebec, Canada, Craig has lived in Washington and Philadelphia. He now resides in Baltimore with his wife and son.
